Hearst Castle is a short drive to the north and the Museum of Natural History in Morro Bay is a popular attraction. - ELEPHANT SEAL ROOKERY
The Northern Elephant Seal is an extraordinary marine mammal. It spends eight to ten months a year in the open ocean, diving 1000 to 5000 feet deep for periods of fifteen minutes to two hours, and migrating thousands of miles, twice a year, to its land based rookery for birthing, breeding, molting and rest. The Piedras Blancas rookery, on Highway 1 seven miles north of San Simeon on the California Central Coast, is home to about 15,000 animals. www.elephantseal.org

- Montana de Oro State Park
The Santa Lucia chapter of the Sierra Club provides information on this senic park. Located just south of Morro Bay, the area offers guided nature walks and camping.

The path is mostly flat, except for some dipping in and out of ravines. The sight of Morro Rock looming in the misty distance will make the hike memorable. Read more | directions
- Estero Bluffs
Located north of Cayucos and west of Highway One. The property is approximately 355 acres consisting of grassland-dominated coastal terrace that slopes from Highway One to the Pacific Ocean. From Cayucos Pier to Villa Creek is 9 miles round trip.
